This project investigates the natural production of the thiopeptide antibiotic GE2270A by Planobispora rosea. Transcriptomic data reveal a shutdown of protein synthesis and respiratory chain at the end of exponential growth, that phosphate and iron limit growth under the fermentation conditions used, and a new biosynthetic gene cluster related to benarthin and dibenarthin production was discovered. A genome scale metabolic model, iFDC900, was also built.
